VACCINATIONS: All vaccinations delivered by suitably trained pharmacists have always been covered by indemnity insurance as part of the standard PDA membership apart from Covid-19. For new membership renewals after January 1st, 2026, Covid-19 vaccinations are now also automatically covered.

  • PDA responds to apprenticeship consultations for health professionals

    The PDA is responding to a series of consultations published on 4 November by the Institute of Apprenticeships & Technical Education (IFATE) which include proposals for pharmacy technicians, optometrists, and doctors. These IFATE consultations provide less than two weeks for interested parties to respond.  

  • Irish trade union movement supports tripartite approach to decision making on future of pharmacy

    The ICTU has adopted a proposal from the PDA that states that decision making by the government regarding future pharmacy policy and service design should be made through tripartite structures, with non-employer pharmacists represented by their trade union who are able to provide a more comprehensive, integrated point of view to complement that presented by employers. 

  • Boots pharmacists pay talks at ACAS begin on 18 November

    The final stage of the 2021 pay talks for pharmacists at Boots begins on 18 November after no agreement could be reached by the two parties. 

  • Government announces outcome of consultation on mandatory Covid-19 vaccinations for NHS workers

    Health Secretary, Sajid Javid has confirmed that the Government is to introduce Covid-19 vaccinations as a condition of employment for all frontline health and social care workers. 

  • PDA launches Safer Pharmacies Charter commitment videos

    As part of the long-running safer pharmacies campaign to improve safety and care for patients, the PDA has launched seven videos; one for each commitment of the Safer Pharmacies Charter. The PDA is also urging all pharmacists to take part in the 2021 Safer Pharmacies Survey which is based around the seven commitments.

  • GPhC announces closure date for the provisional register

    Following the GPhC’s announcement that the provisional register will close on 31 January 2022, the PDA is reminding all provisional registrants that they must join the main register to continue to practise as a pharmacist after this date.  

  • Understanding when to withdraw and when to nullify for the November 2021 assessment

    The GPhC has issued guidance regarding the process leading up to the assessments to be held on the 16 November, including practice questions and information for the day of the exam. 

  • Members preparing for the November assessment can still register for the PDA revision programme

    PDA Education is currently running a revision programme to support members who are preparing to sit the assessment in November 2021. This is through the PDA’s Education Hub, which is an online platform that provides free training to members. 

  • PDA comment as large employers respond to HMRC investigation into tax status of locums

    The PDA has written to locum members after some large pharmacy contractors have contacted locum pharmacists asking them to provide details of their working arrangements. This is connected to the HMRC investigation into the tax status of locums which forms part of the extension of the IR35 arrangements into the private sector.
